What began as a simple project for the new school year ended in an unexpected near-10 million viewership on Youtube.
In their own rendition of Mark Ronson’s chart-topping hit “Uptown Funk”, Dallas Theater Arts teacher Scot Pankey led his troupe of theater students through the halls of A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School.
Pankey heard the song over Christmas break and pitched the idea to his students — all from six different theater classes.
“I told them, ‘I am not a dancer, but I’d love to do this and go on this journey with you, and we can all learn from it and have a good time,’” Pankey told The Dallas Morning News. “And they were all on board.”
And the icing on the cake? It was all done in one take.
The dance routine even earned the Bruno Mars Seal of Approval.
